Nokia N80 Reviews

Nokia's N80 was introduced with the second wave of Nseries handsets in November of 2005. It packs quad-band GSM/EDGE support and 3G WCDMA access into an attractive slider form factor. But there is more to the N80 that makes it so interesting. For one, it has 802.11g WiFi support and a SIP compatible VOIP client, meaning you could theoretically use the N80 with a VOIP provider such as BroadVoice or Vonage. When you add a 3 megapixel camera to the mix and a very high resolution display, things start to look very interesting indeed.

The Nokia N80 is a multimedia-rich phone with a 3-megapixel camera, a second VGA camera, and an integrated music player. It also has a sharp screen, PIM functionality, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.

Why was a slider form-factor selected? The reason is not its fashion attractiveness, only later the company of Samsung will obtain such popularity for it. It happened so that for design moment the element base prevented from making a candybar with acceptable body height, which formed the main reason. And during the line and element base development, we can see the company's attempts to place all components in a standard candybar shape. Nokia has not recalled the slider form-factor till now, which proves the reasons why this body shape was selected for the first smartphone.

All of which leaves the N80 which, on paper at least, should be THE 3rd Edition flagship. It's the smallest in terms of length, it's got the usual Nseries photographic goodies, it's got UPnP, Wi-Fi and every other comms technology known to man. And it's got the highest pixel resolution of any S60 device.

Did someone say Swiss Army Knife? At a slightly bulky 95 by 50 by 26 mm and 134 g, Nokia's attractive N80 slider packs an eye-popping amount of features, courting functions from camera through 3G, music and business phone.
