The appeal of the VX9400 starts and ends with the large 2.2-inch display. With a simple thumb flick, the screen flips up 45 degrees to the left into a widescreen position perpendicular to the phone's body, revealing the slightly recessed dialpad. Whatever happens to be on the display automatically reorients itself depending on its position, although some functions require the screen to be up.
For now, the LG VX9400 is the best mobile TV phone available in my view. It shows eight video channels in lovely widescreen glory. But its most noticeable feature, a swiveling screen, will make it a divisive, love-it-or-hate-it device.
At first glance, the VX9400 looks like a basic slider phone. A large (2.2-inch, 320x240 pixels) display hides the dialpad, leaving only the navigation buttons visible on the front of the unit. But instead of sliding up, the VX9400's display swivels to the left, thus exposing the numeric keypad. When opened, the phone has a T-shaped appearance with the screen assuming a landscape orientation (more on that later).
