Like HTC, Nokia distinguishes itself in the smart phone world by offering a broad range of designs. Nokia's E series is particularly noteworthy; this family of business-centric smart phones comes in all shapes and sizes, pretty much ensuring that there's a style to suit almost everyone. We've already checked out the broad and powerful Nokia E62, which is built for the power user, but what if you want the same messaging capabilities without all the bulk? No problem. The Nokia E70 answers that call. It offers a more compact candy bar-style design, yet still manages to pack in a fold-out QWERTY keyboard, robust productivity tools for the mobile professional, and a 2-megapixel camera. Unfortunately, all this power takes a bit of a toll on the phone, as it occasionally suffers from sluggish performance, and call quality could be better. As with most of Nokia's smart phones, the E70 has not been picked up by a U.S. carrier, so you'll pay a premium for an unlocked version. Currently, the Nokia E70 is available for around $390 to $450.
Nokia has released another handset based on the 3rd edition of Series 60 user interface. This phone runs on Symbian 9.1 as the other new smartphones from the Finnish manufacturer. With its interesting design solutions and great features, it surely aims for lots of fans and will be a huge success. With its 2 megapixel camera, folding QWERTY keyboard and great connectivity features like WiFi, Nokia E70 is more than just a business phone; it is a dream phone.
The E70 phone sports dimensions of 117 x 53 x 22 mm and it weighs 127g. It is slightly larger than your usual Nokia candybar phone but you have to factor in the full keyboard that hides in the centre of the device. However, the downside of a phone like this is that it is virtually impossible to find a protective casing for it.
At heart the E70 is a fairly standard S60 3rd Edition Eseries smartphone, with the full set of PIM and Enterprise-focussed applications, including the new S60 Office suite and licensed versions of Handy Expense, Zip Manager and WorldMate. See our E61 review for all the gory detail of the platform, hopefully most people reading this will know the drill by now - S60 3rd Edition is slicker and prettier, with better support for different screen sizes, but has a slightly more limited range of third party software available (though in practice this mainly means less games). The display's impressively high resolution at 352 by 416 pixels and all S60 screen elements are nicely drawn and smoothly finished off.
The Nokia E70 is the 'other' QWERTY keyboard equipped phone in Nokia's latest E-series range, sharing the feature with the E61. Designed in a similar way as the old Nokia 6800 and 6820, the E70 has a full QWERTY keyboard hidden in a fold open design. For the uninitiated, this means that the E70 will look just like a normal phone with numerical keys when the flip is closed, but opens up to provide a full QWERTY keypad when needed
